New Belgium Brewing, maker of Fat Tire Amber Ale and a wide variety of award-winning beers, is once again taking its beer-toting, film-traveling, nonprofit-benefiting show on the road and is coming to Asheville! Clips is a national beer and film festival where guests can try beers from New Belgium’s Lips of Faith series, along with some popular classics, and screen short films made by New Belgium fans. Join us Friday, September 5, at the Roger McGuire Green section of Pack Square Park to sit under the stars and sip beers with all the proceeds benefitting Asheville on Bikes. This year marks the fifth season for Clips, which has raised more than $370,000 for nonprofits nationwide since its inception in 2010. If you’ve seen David Mayfield perform with The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons, Jessica Lea Mayfield, or at Bonnaroo, you’ve caught the charisma, the heart, and the comedy, and it’s likely you’ll come back for more. The David Mayfield Parade’s April 1 release “Good Man Down” begs for that same repeated enjoyment.

With eclectic, cinematic songs that stir up images of the old West and urban cityscapes, the 12-track album feels like a game changer for a singer-songwriter, band leader, and Grammy nominated producer who stepped out of the sideman shadows with his 2011 solo debut “The Parade.” He likens “Good Man Down” to “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Like “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” his first album was lighthearted and fun with nods to the past. Downtown After 5   [Fairs & Festivals]

Downtown After 5 takes place from 5-9pm on the 3rd Friday of the month from May through September, Downtown After 5 is located at N. Lexington Avenue and I-240 and is always free. To purchase alcohol attendees will need to show a valid picture ID and buy a $2 wristband. Proceeds from wristband sales will support a nonprofit organization. From sandwiches to pizza and ice cream to tacos, food vendors offer a something for everyone’s taste. Downtown After 5 is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and features a solar-powered stage, complimentary bike corral, compostable food and beverage containers, and staffed recycling and compost bins. Since implementing its greening initiative, the event has reduced the number of bags headed to the landfill to just a handful.
