May 26-28, 2017 The Mountain Sports Festival returns with an impressive lineup to entice any pro or amateur athlete to test themselves in mountain sports. The 3-day festival brings in over 15,000 visitors and competitors in Asheville, the center of the East Coast outdoor life. Along with the competition, athletes and spectators alike will find plenty of action at the Festival Village at Carrier Park, located along the French Broad River in Asheville. Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountain region of the Appalachians, Asheville is the venue for a long list of competitive events coupled with entertainment, demos and exhibitors. Many sports festivals offer competition, but few add the mountainous terrain to take it up a notch for serious challenge and endurance. When not out at the races, the Festival Village is the place to be along the scenic French Broad River in West Asheville. Races and competitions will take place throughout the weekend, starting with the Cyclocross and Ultimate Frisbee at the Festival Village. Things will heat up early on Saturday with a full schedule of high-energy competition highlighted by the Mountain Disc Golf Challenge, French Broad Challenge Triathlon, and SUP race. The Prama Institute and Wellness Center will hold an all-day festival on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The public is invited to enjoy this free celebration, taking place from 10am-11pm at Prama’s double-domed facility. There will be a variety of free classes, workshops, and activities taking place throughout the day from which to choose. These include yoga and meditation classes by some of the region’s best teachers, holistic workshops by Prama faculty, 5Rhythm dance session, sound healing, tours of its Wellness Center, massage, and music by Jai Uttal (via Skype), Chris Rosser, and others. Participants will also be able to purchase a delicious and nutritious lunch and dinner prepared by Prama’s chefs. Activities for children will be held throughout the day. Then they can attend special workshops at Local Cloth’s Dye Studio and Classroom June 6, 7 and 8 to learn ways to use that fiber. The fifth annual Fiber Feel Day, presented by Local Cloth Inc. and sponsored in part by WNC Communities, will be in the NC Farmers Only Shed (Shed One) at the Farmer’s Market, 570 Brevard Road in Asheville. SHARE THE DRUM Asheville Percussion Festival 2017 will be held June 26-July 2, in beautiful Asheville, NC. Come enjoy a creative environment where percussionists and dancers of all traditions, from around the globe, gather to explore, create and innovate. The festival will be hosted by Asheville's ambassador to rhythm, River Guerguerian. Fifteen world-renowned artists will collaborate and create original compositions during the week. They will also teach a week-long intensive program, give workshops/demonstrations on Saturday for the public, perform a concert on Saturday evening, and facilitate a sound meditation on Sunday. The intensive program, workshops, and sound meditation will be held at the Odyssey Community School. 90 Zillicoa St., Asheville, NC, 28801. The Intensive Program will include 2 tracks: Beginner/Novice & Intermediate/Advanced. Both tickets include 5 hours of classes per day Monday, June 26 - Thursday, June 29, and 3 hours of classes on Friday, June 30. An Intermediate/Advanced Ticket will also include an hour of rehearsal per day with the Teaching Artists and performing in a group piece at the Saturday evening concert. Throughout the week, there will be an open Collaboration Room for participants to get together, jam, and share ideas. Intensive Program tickets include the Saturday evening concert and Sunday morning Sound Meditation. There will be a community activity on Friday June 30 at 6:00pm. All workshops and activities on Saturday, July 1 are free. Please register for a free ticket on the Tickets page. A Free Workshop Ticket includes entry into all activities on Saturday at the Odyssey School, but not the evening concert at the Diana Wortham Theatre or the Sound Meditation on Sunday.  Topics will include performing, rhythms from around the world, and dancing taught by world-renowned performers.  The Saturday evening Masters Concert will take place at 8 p.m. on July 1 at the Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville, 12 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. The concert will feature original collaborative compositions created by our world-renowned Teaching Artists during the residency week. A separate ticket is required. The Sunday Sound Meditation will take place at 11 am on July 2 at Odyssey Community School. A separate ticket is required.Other activities and amenities will include a silent auction, vending, demonstrations, a food truck and ice cream.
