Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. We will meet in the parking lot and enjoy a brief walking meditation through the beautiful botanical gardens before flowing through 75 minutes of traditional Hatha yoga in a secluded, flat grassy area surrounded by trees. These classes are held rain or shine as there is a covered cabin porch area where we can practice if it is raining or if the ground is too muddy.  Afterwards: You are free to head back to the parking lot and leave or stay and explore more of the gardens. A significant portion of every class goes directly to the Botanical Gardens at Asheville, a non-profit that relies completely on volunteers, donations and memberships.   Positive physiological and mental benefits of both yoga and reconnecting with nature have been reported including reduction of pain, stress and inflammation as well as better sleep. If you do not have a partner but are interested in attending, contact the event coordinator.  Wear comfortable athletic wear and please bring one yoga mat per pair.  The schedule for the weekend is: Friday evening 8/25/2017 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm (Free Lecture on the art Japanese rope bondage) Saturday 8/26/17 10:30 am to 5:00 pm  Sunday 8/27/17 10:30 am to 5 pm

Description:
As we cuddle in the park, not only do we get to enjoy fresh air and nature we also get to normalize touch and intimacy with clear boundaries; this is a space for respectful, consent-based, non-sexual touch. We allow ourselves to be seen. We have fun. We get our touch needs met. Please join us for this FREE cuddling event, hosted by the therapists at HoldmeAVL. We welcome people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, economic statuses, races, spiritual or religious beliefs, sizes, and ages (children welcome; parents/guardians must keep your eyes on your children and be responsible for them). If you'd like to hear about future touch related events join the facebook group Asheville Cuddle Club https://www.facebook.com/groups/2325290144363077/ or follow HoldMeAVL https://www.facebook.com/Holdmeavlcom-312051202515442/ Community Cuddles Itinerary 1:30 PM – Show up with blankets and pillows under the trees near the gazebo (for those who don’t know the botanical gardens well, from the parking lot, take the path to the right, go over the bridge, and then continue towards the right). 1:45 PM – Welcome Circle. This is the most important part of the event and we ask that all attendees be present for the whole Welcome Circle. This part of the event will include setting boundaries and communicating around consent. Because we are using a public, outdoor space, we cannot strictly limit people from entering after 1:45 when the Welcome Circle starts, however we ask that if you would like to cuddle you come for the welcoming circle. 2:00-4:30 PM – Open cuddling! You MUST ask and get a verbal ‘yes’ before touching or cuddling with anybody at this event. If you are not sure how to do this - great! We will talk about it during the welcome circle. ETIQUETTE ARRIVE ON TIME: It is important that all participants arrive before the Welcome Circle. The Welcome Circle serves the purpose of creating the safe space for consensual, non-sexual touch between participants and making sure that everyone is informed about consent. Please be free of strong scents; many folks would rather not be close to someone who smells of cigarettes, perfume, or even essential oils. Your clean self is a good smell. BE SOBER, please do not drink or smoke before or at this event. Please stay clothed in a minimum of shorts and a tank top for the entire event. Please do not wear anything that you consider sexy or risqué – think elementary school slumber party. WHAT TO BRING: personal water bottle and snacks to share, blankets, pillows, anything else cuddly, a friend, a date - whatever cuddle accessories you like! The only thing that you are required to bring is a clean and sober you. THE RULES OF CUDDLING 1. Clothes stay on for the whole event. 2. You do not have to touch anyone at a Cuddle Club event. 3. You must ask permission and receive a verbal YES before you touch anyone. Please be specific in your requests. 4. If you feel a yes, say YES. If you feel a no, say NO. If you’re a maybe, say NO. You can always change your mind. 5. Get your facilitator or assistant if you have a question or concern or if you need assistance with anything during the event. 6. Talking, laughter, silence, silliness, stillness and crying are welcome. WHY CUDDLE Touch is a basic human need, and many of us do not get enough. In fact, most people don’t even know they are missing touch, or have a way to ask for touch without sexualizing it. At HoldMeAVL, we provide individual cuddling sessions and help our clients learn how to ask for the touch they need. We believe deeply in the power of touch, and the importance of communication and consent in creating a safe space for touch. Events like Cuddle in the Park are a way for us to bring the value of cuddling to more people and share our passion with the community. Cuddle Club brings together people from different walks of life to explore giving and receiving gentle touch together. Not only that, but it promotes a culture that is built around consent! CUDDLING WITH STRANGERS Cuddling with strangers sounds weird to most people, and often scary. “Will I like it?” “What if someone wants to touch me and I don't want to?” “What if I say yes and it’s not what I want?” “What if I really want to touch someone and they say no?” Are all normal questions. The answer is that this is a space created to ask for exactly what you want, and receive NOTHING you don’t want. You may not get everything you ask for, but more than anywhere else, here you are encouraged to ask for what you want, and say ‘no’ or ‘stop’ to anything that you do not want. Many people start out nervous at a cuddle event. Most are really, really glad they came.

Are you looking for a quick crash course to help you find mental strategies or breathing strategies to cope with labor?  Does your partner need some guidance on how to support you during your birth?  Do you have some fears or anxieties about the big day and how you are going to get through it?  Comfort measures are not just for an unmedicated vaginal birth, but are useful and often most needed when labor does not go the way we planned. Join us for this 1 1/2 hour class to give mom's tools to feel safe and strong during her labor and help her relax down into the sensations she will feel rather than fight them.  Partners will leave this class knowing when to talk, what to say (understanding your mama's love lanugage), how to support, how to touch and bring pain relief both during and between contractions.  This is a Homegrown Babies community offering that is offered at no charge!
