Friction Farm combines storytelling, social commentary and humor to create songs of everyday life, local heroes and quirky observations. They were 2011 Kerrville New Folk Finalists and Falcon Ridge Emerging Artists. From ballads to anthems, each song is filled with harmony and hope.

Friction Farm is guitarist/vocalist Aidan Quinn and bassist/vocalist Christine Stay. The duo spent much of 2012 traveling. For Aidan and Christine that meant a lot of reading. They decided to turn it into a project, discussing the book, seeing where the story would take them, and writing a song. It was fun & frustrating, invigorating & exhausting, but always interesting.
They were inspired by true tales The Voyage of the Beagle and fictio

Langhorne Slim & The Law w/ The Dewars   [Other]

Event Date: 04/30/2015  Event Time: All Day

Description:

http://www.langhorneslim.com/
There is nothing like the challenges and camaraderie of the road to inspire a songwriter who thrives upon the emotional energy and exhilaration only travel can deliver. Some singers are devoted to the pursuit of perpetual motion, and Langhorne Slim releases his wild soul in ways that come out of the discipline of live performance.

The 13 songs that compose Langhorne Slim & The Law’s new The Way We Move are road-tested, rollicking and very rock ‘n’ rolling tunes that the songwriter perfected with his loyal band, and come out of the kind of good times and bad experiences that songwriters of Langhorne’s lofty stature can turn into life-affirming rock ‘n’ roll. You could also call what Langhorne Slim does folk music, but then there’s his sly, charming and open-hearted feel for pop music—those summertime melodies that nudge you into a grin even when the song is about something bad.

Three-time Grammy winner and visionary roots-music storyteller Keb’ Mo’ embarks on a new chapter in his career with the April 22 release of ‘BLUESAmericana’ on Kind of Blue Music. His twelfth full-length album marks the 20th anniversary of his debut ‘Keb’ Mo’,’ but, more important, the disc is a signpost of artistic and personal growth.

“I only make albums when I’m inspired to, and these 10 songs come from a very honest place,” Keb’ relates. “’BLUESAmericana’ is the beginning of the next phase of who I am.” The disc will be accompanied by Keb’s most extensive tour in years.

Achieving this wasn’t easy. In the period since the unveiling of 2011’s ‘The Reflection’ — which paired Keb’ with India.Arie, Vince Gill, Dave Koz and Marcus Miller while spotlighting eclectic, virtuoso performances —

Elephant Revival   [Music]

Event Date: 04/30/2015  Event Time: 9:00 PM

Description:

"Where words fail music speaks."That simple line atop Elephant Revival's Facebook page contains only five words, but reveals volumes about the band's reason for being. Music unites us in ways that no other medium can. Even when we don't understand one another's languages we can be moved by a rhythm, soothed by a song. Brought together by a unified sense of purpose the spirit of five souls working as one, in harmony, creating sounds they could never produce alone. The five souls in Elephant Revival are Sage Cook (banjo, guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, bass and fiddle); Bridget Law (fiddle, octave fiddle); Bonnie Paine (washboard, djembe, musical saw, stompbox); Daniel Rodriguez (guitar, banjo, bass); and Dango Rose (double-bass, mandolin, banjo). All share vocals and write songs. Paine delivers additional beats via footstomps on plywood, her stockinged feet doing near jigs as her hands, encased in antique leather gloves, rub silver nickel against corrugated metal. This Nederland, Colo., quint

In its eighth year, Asheville Wordfest turns its eye on Asheville and invites community members to write about their city. Using the theme “The City Narrative / The Narrative City,” director Laura Hope-Gill sees this Wordfest as a celebration of the many voices that make up a place.

Hope-Gill, director of the Thomas Wolfe Center for Narrative at Lenoir-Rhyne, says, “The City Narrative is the story of Asheville and the land it stands on, from its Cherokee history to now. Each of us is a part of this story, and the mission of this year's Asheville Wordfest is to create spaces for people tell their part. “

Wordfest mainstage events will feature poets as well as “city narrators.” City narrators are people from town who will simply share a part of Asheville’s story. Narrators include historian and photographer Andrea Clark, architect Dave Nutter, writers Alli Marshall and Dale Neal,
