Description:
Genre: Rock/Soul/Pop Cover: $8 Adv / $10 DOS Ages: 21+ Event Listing: http://ashevillemusichall.com/music-schedule/arum-rae/ Arum Rae: Arum Rae, formerly known as White Dress, is a modern day siren based in Brooklyn, by way of Austin, TX. Arum's music and her voice is here to inspire... it is honest at its core so that you can do with it what you please, with no regrets. Everything Arum has lived through and all of the songs that have been born from it, are not meant to impress. They are meant to lead. Her ability to transcend styles allows the music to complement country, resurrect the soul, feel the blues, and ruin then re-invent rock, through her deeply rooted foundation as a singer-songwriter. Arum's name is derived from a water lily (Arum lily) in Latin. Growing up, her family moved often, so at every new school, she always found shelter in the music programs. At her third high school, her choir teacher heard her potential, and took Arum under his wing and helped secure her a scholarship to the B

20000 Days On Earth   [Film]

Event Date: 10/23/2014  Event Time: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Description:
"This day is both more real and less real, more true and less true, more interesting and less interesting than my actual day, depending on how you look at it" Nick Cave Drama and reality combine in a fictitious 24 hours in the life of musician and international cultural icon Nick Cave. The film is an intimate portrait of the artistic process, celebrating the transformative power of the creative spirit. Cave says, of first-time feature directors Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard; "I've always liked their unorthodox approach to things and on a personal level we have always gotten on very well. I invited them in to film some promotional footage for the new record. In the end, the footage was so compelling we decided to expand the idea." 20,000 Days On Earth takes us deep into the heart of how myth, memory, love and loss, shape our lives, every single day. A line in Cave's songwriting notebook calculating how many days he'd been alive inspired the film's title. The film delves into Nick's artistic p

Keys N Krates / gLAdiator - Thugli   [Music]

Event Date: 10/23/2014  Event Time: 9:00 PM

Description:
Ages 18+

Keys N Krates formed as the brainchild of drummer Adam Tune, synth/keyboard aficionado David Matisse and internationally award-winning turntablist Jr. Flo. The Toronto trio came together in 2008 with the desire to bring their blend of live electronic instrumentation to the stage.

They’ve often been referred to as the worlds only “trap band,” a title they reluctantly accept. Tune says it best: “At the end of the day, people are going to call us whatever they want. We are referencing everything from classic house music to Timbaland in our beats, but I think the trap references tap into what the current sound is, and we are okay with that.” Having toured their unique blend of hip hop and bass music extensively across North America, Keys N Krates put out a slew of original music in 2013. Their most recent body of work, titled SOLOW EP, was released via Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records in September 2013.

Pan Harmonia Presents the Opal String Quartet   [Theater]

Event Date: 10/24/2014  Event Time: 7:30 PM

Description:
Pan Harmonia presents the Opal String Quartet Friday, October 24 at 7:30 PM in the intimate St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 337 Charlotte in North Asheville. The Opal String Quartet will lend their passionate and incisive style to romantic masterpieces by Brahms and Bloch, as well as two brand new compositions by local composer Tim Winter of Saluda. Winter's works are jazzy, lush, intriguing, and highly listenable, and create the perfect counterpoint for the deep sonorities of Johannes Brahms' “C Minor String Quartet” and the plaintive “Prelude” of Ernest Bloch. Tickets $16.50 in advance, $22 at the door, $5 students http://www.pan-harmonia.org/shop
