Description:
Stop by the store this Friday for the best free wine tasting in Asheville!  We're pouring some fun French wines, and you're going to love them.  Guaranteed!  Just drop by any time between 4-7pm -- we've got plenty of free parking. We're going off the beaten path today -- there will be no Bordeaux, no Burgundy, and no Champagne at this tasting.  Instead, we're digging deeper into some France's lesser known regions and wines.  Ever tried any whites from Gascogne?  They're awesome and they're super-affordable.  How about reds from Isle Saint Pierre, an island in the middle of the Rhone River?  Here's your chance.  Expand your horizons, taste some new wines, stock up on some extreme values, and save big every Friday at Table Wine.  And stop back by tomorrow from 2-5pm as we pour an all-star lineup of new California wines -- trust me, don't miss it! All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  To take advantage of the savings, all sales must be tendered by the end of the tasting. 1. 2017 Mont Gravet Cotes de Gascogne Blanc (Gascogne, France) - Gascogny is in the southwestern part of France, near the city of Toulouse.  Long recognized as one of France's top value zones, I think you'll understand after tasting this wine.  100% Colombard fermented in stainless steel, it is reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc with its bright, crisp, and clean personality. Special Tasting Price: $7.99/bottle 2. 2016 Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre Blanc (Rhone Valley, France) – Isle Saint-Pierre is an island in the middle of the Rhone river.  The wines produced here are unique (they don't contain any of the classic Rhone grapes), yet delicious.  This blend of tank-fermented Chardonnay, Muscat, and Sauvignon Blanc is dry and crisp, with floral-scented apple and citrus fruit. Special Tasting Price: $7.99/bottle 3. 2016 Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre Rouge (Rhone Valley, France) - Though it comes from the Southern Rhone valley, it doesn't contain any of the classic Rhone varietals.  Instead, it's a blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, Carmenere, and Arinarona.  Crazy huh?  The wine, however, is not crazy.  It's delicious, with notes of peppery spice and dark fruit. Special Tasting Price: $7.99/bottle

Join us this Saturday for a free wine tasting featuring a trio of awesome, new California wines.  It's Asheville's best free wine tasting, and you're invited.  Spread the word! I'm pumped about this tasting because I love sharing new wines with all of you.  And my oh my, I've found some new winners for sure.  All three of the selections for this tasting are great, but wine #3 is special.  It reminded Ben and I of a wine from Kirk Venge -- think 2/3 Silencieux Cab and 1/3 Scout's Honor.  Yep, it's that good!  Read more below or stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines. All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  To take advantage of the savings, all sales must be tendered by the end of the tasting. 1. 2015 Tobias Chardonnay "Blue Oaks Vineyard" (Mendocino County, California) - Crafted by Dawn and Toby Forman (Ric Forman's son) from their own vineyards, this is a wonderful expression of California Chardonnay.  Just 35% undergoes malolactic, so there's just the right amount of richness.  Beautiful pear, golden delicious apple, spices and white floral notes permeate this great value, North Coast Chardonnay. Special Tasting Price: $15.99/bottle 2. 2016 Wyatt Cabernet Sauvignon (Various Regions, California) – Wyatt is put together by New York-based importer and wholesaler Doug Polaner.  Doug works with several winemakers in California, and this Cabernet is made with declassified wine that often sells at a much higher price.  It's a ton of Cab for the money! Special Tasting Price: $11.99/bottle 3. 2014 Amizetta Tradition Red Wine (Napa Valley, California) - Jeb Dunnuck says, "A smoking value based on 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 21% Syrah and the rest Petite Sirah, the 2014 Tradition is a straight up fruit bomb that does everything right. Blueberry, black cherry, fruit tart and hints of vanilla all emerge from this opulent, mouthfilling beauty that has tons of sweet fruit yet stays balanced and clean."  Yep, I agree 100%.  Wait until you try this baby! Special Tasting Price: $31.99/bottle One Day Special: Buy a solid 6-pack, and I'll do $29.99/bottle.  That's over 20% off!!

The Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble returns to Asheville with The Experiment, a fully improvised B-movie sci-fi comic thriller. Time-traveling creatures from inside your mind... Genetically-modified clones of your worst-nightmare-self… Hold onto your seats because anything can happen when the twisted minds of IRTE meld with the spur-of-the-moment suggestions of the audience in this improvised B-movie sci-fi thriller that will have you laughing, screaming, and dying for more! This improvised send-up of glorious B movie thrillers (the kind you might catch on a sleepless night while flipping through some of your more obscure cable channels) invites the audience to help create a Sci-Fi flick. Entering its seventh season, the award-winning group of actors develop, produce and perform original themed, theatrically-staged, and character-driven comedy shows based in improvisation. IRTE has won praise for elevating the art of improvisational theatre while opening it up to a broader audience of theatergoers. By adding simple costumes, props, and strong characters, IRTE presents a very theatrical, raw, ridiculous and irreverent, narrative-driven and completely improvised show that has made a powerful impact around the country. IRTE was thrilled to have been a part of last year's Asheville Fringe Arts Festival and honored to have been named "Artists Whose Work made Me Laugh the Most." Most recently, IRTE performed at the Providence Fringe Festival, the Midtown International Theatre Festival, Theatre for the New City’s Dream Up Festival, the Del Close Marathon, Philadelphia Improv Festival, Boston Comedy Arts Festival, NYC Improv Festival, Unscripted New York Improvised Theatre and Film Festival, Tampa Improv Festival, New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival, and Portland Improv Festival. They enjoyed a residency at Gotham City Improv, and were honored with the 2014 Supreme Honorary Improvised Theater & Film Award for Outstanding Genre Performance by Unscripted New York. They were named one of the “Seven Must-See Shows” of the 2014 Boston Comedy Arts Festival. Now on Broadway called The Experiment, "...very funny... For a unique improv experience, full of laughs, sci-fi, and a bit of suspense go experience The Experiment." Critics have had this to say about IRTE... "...the Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble has become one of the leading improv troupes in merry old Manhattan and a welcome and uproarious asset to festivals and other engagements across the country. The innovative group mixes retro humor, clever off-on-the-spot wit, and classic theatrical techniques to present wildly unique and wildly funny shows." Natasha Dawsen, Drama Queens "Magnificent... fantastic... one of the finest improv troupes today!" Outerstage, IRTE MITF A-OK "I was basically laughing from beginning to end, all the while remaining in complete awe of how seamlessly the company members worked together to pull it off." Catherine Santino, Spoiled NYC The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival is an annual performing arts, multiple venue festival that provides artists with opportunities to explore the edges of their work, to collaborate across genres and to bring new and innovative performances to culturally adventurous audiences. Founded in 2002, AFAF has been keeping Asheville interesting for over a decade. Please note that due to the improvisational nature of the shows, there may be some adult content. Description:
We're kicking things off for 2018 with a big, extensive Italian wine tasting featuring 8 different wines from from our friends at the Haw River Wine Man.  Their Italian portfolio is deep and diverse, and they direct-import all of their wines -- that means great prices on great wines!  For this tasting, we're pouring all sorts of good stuff -- trust me, you don't want to miss it.  No RSVP is required and you do not have to be a Grape Nut to attend -- just pay $5 before you begin the tasting and have a great time. All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  To take advantage of the savings, all sales must be tendered by the end of tasting day.  Can't make it, but want to take advantage of the savings?  Just use the contact form below to place your order, and I'll contact you when it's ready for pick-up. 1. 2016 Bidoli Sauvignon Blanc (Friuli, Italy) - Produced from the rocky soils of Friuli's Grave zone, this is stunning Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.  Laced with notes of green fig, lime, white flowers, and rocky minerality. Special Tasting Price: $10.39/bottle 2. 2016 Cantina Frentana Cococciola (Terre di Chieti, Italy) - This rare grape is indigenous to Italy's Abruzzo region and is not very widely grown and rarely exported.  We're glad Haw River brings this one in!  With ripe peach, citrus, and delicate herbal/mineral nuances, this is a natural fit with fresh seafood. Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle 3. 2016 Cordero di Montezemolo Langhe Arneis (Piemonte, Italy) – This wine has a cult following at the store -- once you try it, you'll understand why.  Arneis is native to Italy's Piemonte region, and Barolo legend Cordero di Montezemolo crafts a wonderful version.  "A bright, peach-infused version, sporting chamomile and grapefruit flavors. The rich texture is offset by tangy acidity on the finish." - Wine Spectator - 89 points Special Tasting Price: $14.39/bottle 4. 2015 Cantina Sant'Evasio Barbera d'Alba (Piemonte, Italy) - It's our Case of the Month, and it's your last chance to try one of the best under-$10 Italian reds I've ever had.  Medium-bodied, silky, ripe and just downright delicious, this is a ton of wine for the money. Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle Case of the Month Price: $8.99/bottle on your solid case 5. 2015 Moris Farms Mandriolo Rosso (Tuscany, Italy) - This is a stunner and a tremendous value from one of the top producers in Maremma (coastal Tuscany).  "The 2015 Mandriolo is a fabulous entry-level wine from Morisfarms. Dark red cherry, plum, licorice, spice and floral notes abound. This Sangiovese-based blend offers exceptional balance, especially in its class." - Antonio Galloni - 90 points Special Tasting Price: $10.39/bottle 6. 2014 Vecchia Torre Salice Salentino (Puglia, Italy) - It's time to head south in our tasting, and Salice Salentino is one of the all-time-great Italian "comfort wines."  Mainly Negroamaro, with a bit of Malvasia Nera, this warm, rich, and inviting red wine offers up aromas and flavors of baked cherry, dark chocolate, and spice. Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle 7. 2013 Tezza Brolo delle Giare Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore (Veneto, Italy) - Love Amarone, but hate paying the price?  Buy this!  From late-harvested Corvina, Rondinella, and Oselata, the wine is fermented on the marc of the estate's Recioto (sweet Amarone).  It is then aged for 24 months in oak and 6 months in bottle before release.  The resulting wine is fabulous -- decadent, luscious, and packed with flavors of dark cherry, chocolate, and brown spices, it's a perfect winter wine. Special Tasting Price: $20.79/bottle 8. 2012 Tabarrini Montefalco Sagrantino "Campo alla Cerqua" (Umbria, Italy) - We end the tasting with a magnificent, massive, 94-point-rated red from Tabarrini, one of the top Umbrian producers.  100% Sagrantino (the top red of Umbria), Wine Spectator loved this one.  "Richly aromatic, this dense and grippy red leads with sweet smoke, speck and spice accents that lace the black currant, forest floor and olive tapenade notes. Full-bodied and savory, showing fine focus, balance and length. Has the stuffing to age." - Wine Spectator - 94 points Special Tasting Price: $42.39/bottle

Asheville Gallery of Art February 2018 Show “Inspired by Nature” “Inspired by Nature” for February at Asheville Gallery of Art Asheville Gallery of Art’s February show features the work of two new members, Ana Blanton and Zoe Schumaker. Though they paint in two different styles and mediums, the artists’ work represents the inspiration each derives from nature. The show runs February 1-28 during gallery hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery, located at 82 Patton Avenue in Asheville, across from Pritchard Park, will host a reception for the artists on Friday, February 2, from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to stop by. “When I process ideas, I see them as layers of images rather than words, and as my thoughts become imagery, I feel more comfortable expressing myself through abstract form,” says Ana Blanton. Of her latest series of mixed-media paintings she says, “In this series I am more interested in representing the sense and feel of light in nature. It is about exploring the sense of energy and movement that is unique to light traveling through air, water, and objects in nature or a simple still life.” Blanton, who has lived in Asheville since 1997, has a BA in Art Studio from Mars Hill University. She studied Art Conservation at University of Madrid, Spain, and mural painting and mural Conservation at the International School of Mural Painting Miguel Farre, Barcelona, Spain. Zoe Schumaker says, “From an early age, I tried to capture the beauty I saw by drawing and photographing my surroundings.” Raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California, the artist spent many afternoons immersed in imaginative drawings of the mountains, lakes and forests, and the animals that live there. Schumaker rediscovered her passion for painting upon moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2005. “As I explored the area, I started bringing my backpack kit of pastels. It was not long before I decided to pursue art full time.” The artist teaches painting at the John C. Campbell Folk School and is active in several regional environmental non-profits. She frequently donates her work to support these causes. “Nature is my muse. I hope my paintings capture the joy and reverence I feel for our beautiful home.” The featured works by Blanton and Schumaker, as well as the paintings of the other 29 gallery members will be on display and for sale through the month of February. For further information about this show, you can contact Asheville Gallery of Art at (828) 251-5796, visit the gallery website at www.ashevillegallery-of-art.com, or go to the gallery Facebook page.
