I'm super excited to work with the fine folks at the Asheville Yoga Festival (July 27-30), with local restaurant Local Provisions, and with the wines of famed importer Kermit Lynch for a Farm to Table Wine Dinner. The dinner is not limited to Asheville Yoga Festival attendees and includes 5 courses made with locally sourced ingredients paired with some of Kermit Lynch's finest organic wines. Just as Yoga increases your connection to your body and senses, this dinner will connect you to small family farms and growers/producers near and far. Chef Justin Burdett will create dishes from the bounty of high quality ingredients from the best local farms and myself and Richard McKinney of Tryon Distributing will select wines from the small grower/producer driven portfolio of Kermit Lynch. Being that Chef Justin only buys what is fresh and in season, the menu and the wines will be announced closer to the date of the dinner. At just $100 all inclusive, this is a great deal and you will leave nourished, satiated, and happy! Trust me, it's going to be great. If you have any food allergies or restrictions, please call the restaurant at least a week before the dinner at 828.424.7815 and Local Provisions will offer delicious alternatives. Cheers and we hope to see you for this incredible night of wine and food. Josh Spurling Owner/Operator at Table Wine 1550 Hendersonville Road, Suite #102 Asheville, NC 28803 828.505.8588

Description:
Cool off this Friday with a free wine tasting starring some delicious Southern Hemisphere Summer Wines!  These are guaranteed to beat the heat. Let's face it, it's hot!  Summers in the south can be brutal, and my favorite way to beat the heat is crisp and refreshing white wines and lighter reds.  Join us as we pour a trio of great values from New Zealand, South African and Argentina.  Up first, it's a crisp and lively Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that is a longtime customer favorite.  Up next, it's a fresh and delicious South African Chardonnay from the fine folks at Excelsior, the country's top value brand.  To finish, taste a budget-buster Pinot Noir from Patagonia in Southern Argentina.  Reminiscent of a good Sonoma County Pinot, this one sells for less than $15, and pleases lots of palates.  Stop by, taste, learn and save big on all of the featured tasting wines. All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12. 1. 2016 Walnut Block Wines Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) - For fans of New Zealand staples like Kim Crawford, give this a try!  Simply put, this is textbook Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc -- dry, super crisp, and brimming with tangy and tart citrus fruits and green herbs.  If you are looking for a perfect wine to serve ice cold on a hot and sunny day, this is an ideal candidate. Tasting Price: $13.49 on mixed 3-packs | $12.74 on mixed 6-packs | $11.99 on mixed cases 2. 2016 Excelsior Estate Chardonnay (Robertson, South Africa) - This crisp, mouthwatering bottling is a blend of Excelsior’s three best Chardonnay blocks. It displays lively flavors of green apple, citrus, and pineapple on a full, creamy palate. Traces of peach, orange blossom and delicate toasty notes combine with a mineral edge to round out this versatile everyday sipper, a consistent crowd pleaser. Tasting Price: $8.99 on mixed 3-packs | $8.49 on mixed 6-packs | $7.99 on mixed cases 3. 2015 Familia Schroeder Saurus Pinot Noir (Patagonia, Argentina) - Looking for a great Pinot Noir at a great price?  Look no further!  The version from Argentina's Schroeder family is one of my favorite under-$15 Pinots.  Smooth, silky, moderately complex and laced with notes of ripe berries, violet, and hints of toasty oak, it's a great alternative to more mass produced and widely distributed brands like Meiomi. Tasting Price: $13.49 on mixed 3-packs | $12.74 on mixed 6-packs | $11.99 on mixed cases Josh Spurling Owner/Operator at Table Wine 828.505.8588 [email protected]

Description:
It's the best free wine tasting in Asheville and you're invited! Stop by the store this Friday to sample some crisp summer whites that will make your forget about the summer heat.   I'm kind of sick of talking about the weather.  Everybody's talking about how hot it is.......stop already!  I know it's hot, but it's not like we're in Florida or Missouri (where I grew up).  Either way, I invite you to the cool confines of Table Wine for reprieve.  We're pouring an impeccable lineup of summer sippers including the 2016 Raetia Pinot Grigio, our new Case of the Month Selection and my pick for the Pinot Grigio deal of the year.  That one is second in the lineup, and I promise you it's impressive.  Up first though, it's a simple and crisp Sauvignon Blanc from Chile.  Classic notes of grapefruit, melon, and green apple prevail in this easy-to-drink white.  And last, but not least, it's a special treat in the form of a tiny production Chablis from Domaine Costal.  Trust me, this is nothing like the large grocery store jugs of Chablis.  It's truly world class!  All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the tasting wines. All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12. 1. 2017 Santa Luz Sauvignon Blanc (Central Valley, Chile) - Yes, that vintage is correct!  This is just fresh, crisp, and inviting Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.  Yes, we know it's good and we know it's cheap.........buy 2 bottles! Tasting Price: $7.19 in mixed 3-packs | $6.79 in mixed 6-packs | $6.39 in mixed cases 2. 2016 Viticolori Alto Adige Pinot Grigio "Raetia" (Alto Adige, Italy) - Before you say "I don't like Pinot Grigio," try this!  From one of the top cooperatives of Northeastern Italy, this is Pinot Grigio with something to say.  Beautifully aromatic and flavorful, it offers up notes of ripe pear, peach, apricot and white flowers. Tasting Price: $13.49 in mixed 3-packs | $12.74 in mixed 6-packs | $11.99 in mixed cases Case of the Month Price: $10.99/bottle on your solid case -- Over 20% off! 3. 2015 Domaine Costal Chablis "Les Truffières" (Burgundy, France) - Chablis is the northernmost part of Burgundy, and Chardonnay "behaves" differently here.  The cool climate and the limestone soils result in a higher acid and more mineral style that I am quite keen on.  This one is brought to us by importer Kermit Lynch........being that he also brings in Raveneau, he knows a thing or two about top notch Chablis.  Fermented entirely in stainless steel and aged on its lees for 10 months, it is a nearly perfect white wine in my book. Tasting Price: $31.49 in mixed 3-packs | $29.74 in mixed 6-packs | $27.99 in mixed cases Josh Spurling Owner/Operator at Table Wine 828.505.8588 [email protected]

Description:
Asheville Gallery of Art August 2017 Show “True Colors” “True Colors” for August at Asheville Gallery of Art Asheville Gallery of Art’s August show features the work of Anne Bonnyman and Jane Snyder. While the artists have different artistic styles, the title reflects their shared history singing in the chorus Womansong of Asheville, and the sense of identity each finds in the lyrics to the 1986 song by Cyndi Lauper: And I see your true colors Shining through
I see your true colors And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid To let them show
Your true colors True colors are beautiful Like a rainbow The show runs August 1-31 during gallery hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery, located at 82 Patton Avenue in Asheville, across from Pritchard Park, will host a reception for the artists on Friday, August 4, from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to stop by. Anne Bonnyman says the exploration of color has always been a primary motivation for her in painting, both in its application and its relationships. “My work in this show will be a combination of local landscapes and scenes from my travels in other parts of the world. These paintings reflect my fascination with color explored in a variety of contexts. What is ‘true’ about color for me is that it conveys the power of the scene before me.” Bonnyman is a retired Episcopal priest who came to Asheville 6 years ago. Jane Snyder states, “As an artist, it is not always possible to feel like one’s work truly represents the imagination. But this time, the vision and the imagery emerged through a most gratifying process of paint on paper. This current body of work is a most honest representation of my creative optimism—true colors! It’s a rare moment that I look forward to sharing in the August show.” A well-known teacher of drawing and watercolor living in Asheville, Snyder says, “I can’t decide if I love teaching art more than making art.” As well as the paintings of the two artists, those of the other 29 gallery members will be on display and for sale through the month of August. For further information about this show, you can contact Asheville Gallery of Art at (828) 251-5796, visit the gallery website at www.ashevillegallery-of-art.com, or go to the gallery Facebook page.

Description:
To celebrate the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016, Ben Anderson went into the woods of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, America’s most visited national park. One million steps later, he had hiked more than four hundred miles on all or part of seventy-one different trails. During the year, he hiked three or four hikes each month—some on trails he had frequented in the past, some on trails he had never hiked before. In Smokies Chronicle: A Year of Hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, he invites us to share his journey. During his outings, Ben jotted down his observations in a thirty-year-old Hiking Notes book. Drawing on these notes, he wrote Smokies Chronicle. The book provides a fresh look at the Smokies wilderness as witnessed during its four distinct seasons in a single year. In each of the forty personal narratives in the book, Anderson describes what he encounters along the trail. He also supplies historical background, information about flora and fauna, and helpful advice for those following in his footsteps. Come for inspiration and a chance to chat with Ben.

With more than 11 million visitors in 2016 despite a ten day closure, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is hardly a secret. Yet the 520,000-acre park still has many special places that are relatively little known and lightly visited. Smokies Chronicle: A Year of Hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, author Ben Anderson has identified 12 such places – one for each month of the year – that in most cases don’t require an extreme amount of effort to reach. Join him on a journey through the distinct seasons of the nation’s most popular national park. This free event is open to the public. Kids and well-behaved pets with owner on leash are welcome.

Join us for a Vinovi & Co. Spanish Wine tasting featuring 9 wines from this fabulous, Michigan-based importer.  The cost for this open-house/drop-in style tasting is just $20 ($15 for Grape Nuts) to taste 9+ wines with light tapas (cheese, serrano, marconas, bread, olives).  RSVP and pre-pay are required.  Call us at 828.505.8588 to get for your spot for this incredible event.  We can only take 40 lucky folks for this one. What makes the wines from Vinovi & Co. so special is that they are carefully selected by Barcelona-born Nuria Garrote i Esteve.  I tasted 7 wines with Nuria a little over a month ago, and I bought a case of each.............that has only happened one other time in Table Wine's history.......it was a Turley tasting fyi.  She represents an incredible roster of small growers, producers, and farmers that make an amazing array of modern-styled, innovative, trend-setting wines -- there won't be any of those overly earthy, funky wines at this tasting! Unfortunately, Nuria will not be able to join us for the tasting as she is attending to business in Barcelona.  However, my good friend and former co-worker Mark Orsini will join us to pour and tell the producers' stories.  Thank God for Mark............he's the one who acquired the rights to sell the wines in North Carolina, and he's also the one who got me to taste the wines in the first place.  Mark and I used work together for The Country Vintner (distributor), but decided we'd worked long enough for "the man."  I started Table Wine, Mark started Orsini Wines, and we're both thriving. He and I are both excited about this tasting as we're truly pouring you some of the top wines in Nuria's portfolio.  We'll start with a Champagne-like Cava before we move to a couple of complex and delicious whites.  It's the reds though that will steal your heart!  They're almost all from the northern quadrant of Spain, and they're all big, full flavored, and made with a definitive Catalonia spirit -- think Priorat, big Grenache blends, and a Pomerol lookalike that sells for a fraction of the price.........oh yeah, Nuria is sending some extra samples of some of her newest producers' wines that I haven't even tried........she swears I'm going to love them and I believe her! In a nutshell, if you like modern styled wines made with an avant-garde sort of spirit, you need to be at the store on August 10th! Description:
A Muslim, a Jew, and a Christian walk into a concert hall… …and put on a great concert together, modeling their mutual respect and affection, entertaining listeners, and creating music that is strengthened by their diversity, rather than hindered by it. These three musicians of the three Abrahamic faiths, each of whom has performed extensively and put out many CDs of original music, team up to play together as Abraham Jam. They don't just take turns sharing songs, but create music together, contributing vocal harmonies, percussion, and instrumentation to each other’s songs. Join David LaMotte, Dawud Wharnsby, and Billy Jonas for an unforgettable night of music, conversation, and harmony. Saturday, August 26th, 2017 at The Asheville Masonic Temple. Doors open at 7pm, and the concert starts at 8pm. There will be a brief intermission. Tickets are general admission. $25 in advance and $28 at the door. (Online sales will end on August 25th, 2017.) Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase in the lobby from Fox Tasket Picnic Baskets & The Hop Ice Cream Cafe. -- Dawud Wharnsby is an insightful and passionate musician based in Toronto, Canada. He sings beautifully-crafted original songs on guitar and mandolin. Billy Jonas is an accomplished percussionist, guitar player, pianist, and songwriter, with infectiously whimsical songs and a knack for inspiring audiences to join in. David LaMotte is a well-loved songwriter, with over 3000 concerts on five continents and every state in the U.S. on his musical resumé, his guitars and drums in tow. Together, they make up the Abraham Jam, a band of brothers. The band was originally formed in 2010, in an effort to foster interfaith respect and cooperation, with Dan Nichols, an accomplished Jewish musician, in the spot Billy Jonas holds now. Their first concert was at Duke University. David LaMotte was working with the North Carolina Council of Churches at the time, and originally came up with the concept. He approached campus Jewish, Muslim, and Christian student organizations in the area and put together an interfaith student committee that chose which musicians would be involved, as well as the name of the band. Since that original Duke University concert, Abraham Jam has performed for the Festival of the Sacred Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and for the 2016 Parliament of World Religions in Salt Lake City, UT, among other events and venues. Plans have begun to record an album together, in support of more extensive touring. Abraham Jam makes a strong case that harmony is better than unity — that we don’t have to be singing the same note to cultivate peace, we can sing different notes that are beautiful together.
