Goombay! Festival Asheville NC

 

Goombay! Festival is an African-Caribbean festival, located in downtown Asheville that lives up to its West African name, meaning rhythm or drum, with rhythmic sounds and colorful sights. Sponsored by the YMI Cultural CenterGoombay festival is the last weekend in August from Friday-Sunday. 

Asheville’s Goombay is a 3-day festival, with two stages of entertainment.  Entertainment encompasses a wide variety of jazz, gospel, soul, reggae and stiltwalkers, drummers and dancers walk through the downtown Asheville street.  Local products are sold throughout the festival.  Children’s events are featured on Saturday afternoon. 

 

Goombay features authentic and delicious Carribean food, with a multitude of outdoor vendors and a variety of sights, smells, sounds, and colors - a fabulous cultural festival!

 

Goombay 2011 in Asheville, NC starts August 26 at 12 pm, with live entertainment until 12pm-10 pm Friday and Saturday.  Goombay Sunday August 28 begins at 10 am with worship followed by more food, music, entertainment, and food and local vendors.  This year’s music lineup will include Reggae Infinity, Santos, The Meditations, and Carolina Soul Band.  Come downtown Asheville August 26-28 to take part in this annual cultural event.
