Description: About the class: This silks class is a dance class in the air. Students will engage in exercises and conditioning in a safe, supportive, encouraging group environment. We will explore the many ways skills can be put together to make more complex expression. This is not necessarily a class only for performers or choreographers, but for any aerial student who is interesting in using their aerial skills as a creative outlet. Students should have mastered Legs Basics Movements (or be able to show some equivalent skill set). Intermediate and advanced students are encouraged to attend. About the teacher: Naomi Ullian has studied ballet and modern dance for the past 18 years, and began her aerial training in 2009 with Aerial Space and Asheville Aerial Arts. She currently lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she trains and performs with the Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance Company, studies at the Boulder Circus Center, and teaches aerial basics, advanced fabrics, and choreography and composition at Aerial Dance Over Denver.

This three day event features nationally recognized bluegrass music performers, a workshop, and a local comedian. The area’s finest musicians from the hot local and regional bluegrass scene, along with bluegrass music’s top acts will be on hand for an unparalleled weekend of superb acoustic music performances. In addition to the Grand Ballroom stage shows, many artists will entertain the audience in the cozy sunken lounge providing fans with an opportunity to listen to the music of these musicians in a close, intimate setting.

The Crowne Plaza Resort’s rooms will be occupied by bluegrass fans and all of the facility’s meeting rooms will be set aside for picking and jamming. There is a “quiet” block consisting of a few sleeping rooms which the hotel has set aside for those who wish to relax in a no-jamming zone. Contact the Crowne Plaza Resort for details regarding reserving lodging. All tickets for the festival may be ordered online at th at 7pm. The show will be held on UNC Asheville campus in the Humanities Lecture Hall. Student tickets are $5, community tickets are $7, and all tickets will be $1 off if bought ahead of time.

UNC Asheville is proud to be a participant in the V-Day 2012 Campaign. We have been granted the rights for a V-Day benefit production of this award winning play, "The Vagina Monologues" to raise money and awareness for local as well as international organizations that work to end sexual violence violence against women and girls.

This show aims to create a dialogue about sexuality and sexual violence, as well as share the experiences of women transnationally. Funny, poignant, and provocative, there's something to interest everyone and to make you think as well.

Lotus has crafted a unique musical style outside of simple genre limitations. On a given weekend the band could be the only group with guitars at an all electronic music festival and then the next night crash a traditional rock festival with their dance heavy beats, synths and samples. Equal parts instrumental post-rock and electronic dance, the band's distinguishing feature is the ability to maintain a decidedly unique musical voice and remain current while bucking passing trends.
