Description:
I really find I love to share information and knowledge.  And I have quite a bit of experience teaching cooking, farming, and other food and farming topics.  This will be a 4 class series.   Classes will consist of demonstration, hands-on components, and of course, eating!  Attendees of all four classes will be gifted a Spice Box for their kitchen.  Classes are limited to 10 people. The Series as a whole is aimed at creating foundations that can be applied to many ingredients and situations.  We will be cooking specific dishes, but only to illustrate basic principals of Indian Cooking.  With these principals, folks can go home and apply them to suit their tastes and situations.  The Series is a broad and far reaching Introduction to Indian Food & Cooking, so a lot will be covered.  Look out for future classes on specific dishes.  And make suggestions for class content by emailing [email protected] Classes will be designed to stand alone (so you don't have to purchase the whole series), but Class 1 is reccomended to pair with any one of the other classes. Actual Dishes we cook will be based on their illustrative power of basic principals, techniques,  ingredient usages and the local ingredients we have available in the moment. All classes will end with us sharing food/discussion.  BYOB.   PLEASE NOTE: LOOK FOR CONFIRMATION ON LOCATION BEFORE YOUR CLASS.  Last minute changes due to weather or other reasons may happen. Intro to Gongfu Cha Instructor: Mary Cotterman Although the term “Gongfu Cha” is often applied to any style of Chinese tea service by American tea folks, in China it refers to a very specialized form of tea pouring from the Chaoshan region of Guangdong. It was developed in relationship with the Phoenix Mountains and the oolong that has been produced there since the Ming dynasty. This Class will be an introduction to this charming and idiosyncratic pouring style ideal for high fragrance, high tannin oolongs, such as those from the Phoenix and Wuyi mountains. Come experience Chaozhou Gongfu Cha, drink some lovely teas, and try your hand at pouring! Mary Cotterman is a ceramic artist and tea aficionado. She lived in Southern China where she studied making traditional teaware and tea culture. After having traveled to many tea mountains throughout China, she settled in Chaozhou for two years where she learned Gongfu Cha from old masters and participated in many public tea events. Mary specializes in making Gongfu tea ware and pouring formal tea service. She is now back in the US, with a mission to share and enjoy Chinese tea culture with Americans.

Raised funds are also used to purchase flags for our veterans’ graves.” On Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 17 honor our deceased veterans at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery by placing flags on their graves. Boy Scouts Serving Others: Since 1910, over 4,000 young men in Western North Carolina have earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Through their Eagle Scout service projects, thousands of community service hours have been conducted to benefit our communities. In addition, other Scouts from local Packs, Troops and Crews also perform thousands of additional service hours on an annual basis. Scouts in Western North Carolina will perform over 40,000 hours of community service in 2019. The Boy Scout slogan: "It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential.” Through the advancement program and peer group leadership scouting helps a child develop into a well-rounded young person. The Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank in scouting, is recognized around the world as a mark of excellence. In Boy Scouts, individual members take responsibility for the activities of the troop. By planning and organizing activities, they develop teamwork and learn to lead as well as follow. _________________________________________________________________________ Media Contact: Dan Little, Committee Chairman (828) 298-1452
