The original Allman Brothers Band performed regularly at New York’s Fillmore East Auditorium run by legendary promoter Bill Graham and often referred to as the ‘church of rock and roll.’ The Allman Brothers Band played often enough at Fillmore East to be called ‘Bill Graham’s house band.’ It was here and at other New York metropolitan area venues like Passaic New Jersey’s Central and Capital Theaters, New York’s Central Park’s Schaefer Summer Concert Series where I and other members of LIVE AT THE FILLMORE first heard the Allman Brothers Band perform beginning in 1970. On June 26, 1971 I was at Fillmore East for the Saturday night late show, the last public concert at Fillmore East, the one the ABB band calls ‘THE SHOW,’ the one they feel is the greatest performance they ever gave. I’ve never heard them or any other band give a better performance before or since. Sadly, the next time I heard the band was a few months later at New York’s Academy of Music. It was without its leader, Duane Allman, who had died only weeks before in a motorcycle accident near his home in Macon, Georgia. His guitar was onstage on a stand and it was the most solemn rock concert I have ever attended. I had already formed ‘Skydog,’ what may have been the very first Allman Brothers tribute band earlier that year. These shows left an indelible impression on me and others in LIVE AT THE FILLMORE.

LIVE AT THE FILLMORE is the continuation of our devotion to performing the music of the original Allman Brothers Band as it was performed in those early years before the untimely deaths of Duane and Berry Oakley and the departure of Dickey Betts. For me, those years were the ‘glory days’ of the Allman Brothers Band. Unlike others who believe the band was a jam band, I share the view of Gregg Allman, who has been quoted as recently as 2003 by fellow band member Butch Trucks in stating that rather than being a jam band The Allman Brothers are “a band that jams”. My perspective on the music is that rather than free-form in its structure, form and content it is a body of work largely composed after much trial and error and ‘jamming’ in order to extract those elements which ultimately became part of the finished songs. Anyone like myself who had the good fortune to hear the Allman Brothers shows ‘back in the day’ on the same or successive nights will corroborate that though they did leave room for improvisation and personal expression, for the most part the songs remained the same. This has continued to be our approach to performing their music. Along with the other highly talented and committed musicians in LIVE AT THE FILLMORE, this is our attempt to bring back authentically the performances of the original Allman Brothers Band for those who were there to hear and still remember them along with those who have a similar love of this music and wish they had been there with us. We hope you enjoy listening to LIVE AT THE FILLMORE!

with Mary Lattimore
Henry James once wrote: "It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance... and I know of no substitute whatever for the force and beauty of its process."Julianna Barwick's art is equal parts force and beauty. Her music finds its motor in significant events in her own life, but they are abstracted into a sense of sonic wonderment, a radiance that you could say is her signature sound. That radiance has been taken to new zeniths with Nepenthe, her third full-length album, which was recorded in Reykjavk, Iceland, in the dark cold days of February. In ancient Greek literature, nepenthe was a magic drug of forgetfulness used to wipe out grief and sorrow. The title suggested itself to Julianna, who experienced a death in her own family in the middle of making the record, but it also refers to the music consoling her during the isolation she was going through on her own, in a foreign country, with a terrible internet connection during the sessions. Nepenthe's heady potion is about moving forward, finding a way through difficult times of retaining a feeling of hope."Everything I was making was visceral the record represents some serious emotional stuff," she confirms, while at the same time she raves with enormous positivity about the unique recording environment. Alex Somers (musician/producer of Sigur Rs, Jnsi, Jnsi & Alex) invited her to Iceland in the first place. For Julianna, who was blown away at a Sigur Rs show in 2002, it was a dream come true. "That was the fastest email I ever wrote: 'Yes!' Who would say no to that?" Somers produced and engineered the record and brought in local Icelandic musicians who turned out to make crucial contributions: string ensemble Amiina, guitarist Rbert Sturla Reynisson from Mm, and a choir of teenage girls.Having all these folks around marked a big and daunting new step in Julianna's musical evolution. Most of her previous work had been recorded alone in her bedroom. "There had never been any eyes or ears on the process," she says. "Now I go to Iceland and was with Alex every day. To go from being a hermit music maker to this was a great experience." Completing the picture, and turning it into a family snapshot, Julianna invited her mother formerly a member of a traveling vocal group to sing on the album too.The biggest influence on Nepenthe, though, was the unfamiliar surroundings of Iceland itself, with its vibrant music scene and stunningly alien landscapes with their lingering magic. "I had never had anyone play on any record before, so this was a 180 turn," she explains. "I also was inspired just by being there, and the gorgeousness of that place. Your eyes can't believe what they're seeing. I walked home one night and got totally lost in Reykjavk. I ended up walking alongside the ocean and it was glowing blue. It looked like it had a lamp underneath it. This is a completely different experience than recording myself in my Brooklyn bedroom."Although Julianna is currently based in Brooklyn, she mostly grew up in Missouri and Oklahoma. A taste of her childhood idyll fed into her last album, 2011's The Magic Place, which was named for a tree in whose branches she spent many delightful days. Though she denies it, the track "Adventurer of the Family" could well be applied to herself, as in 2001 she relocated to New York City to study for a degree in photography. "Coming from Oklahoma to the city, and seeing art in galleries and concerts, being surrounded by people who are passionate about the thing they do, and making it happen was inspiring my mind was blown."From an early age Julianna was exposed to the a cappella choral singing of local churches, but she feels drawn to any music that has an inner reverberation. "I can't sing on a dry mic," she insists, "I might as well have no clothes on. "My whole life I've always loved the sound of my voice in a parking garage or a stairwell, when that reverb happens." After high school she joined an operatic chorus and dabbled with the piano, clarinet and guitar, and eventually bought her first electric guitar, complete with loop pedal, in New York, which is really when it all started. She self-released her debut album, Sanguine, in 2005: a confident foray into improvised wordless vocal montage and mouth percussion. By the time her Florine EP appeared four years later, she had fully integrated a loop station into her methods, along with synthesizers and repetitive figures. While making The Magic Place in 2010, she decamped to a soundproofed empty rehearsal space where she could enjoy uninterrupted spells of experimentation with a piano and her increasingly elaborate halo-choirs.Julianna's compositions emerge out of a highly individual way of improvising with her loop station, her voice and various instruments. Like a potter raising a vase from a slowly turning wheel, she grows her melodies by layering and sculpting voice and instrument samples until she has achieved a rich harmonic vessel. "There's a total ease I feel when I'm making music," she says. "I never want it to be too left-brained. With photography I was always trying to make a perfect portrait. That's a whole other way of thinking from the way I make music."Nepenthe is intimate without being introspective. Instead it's a radiant array of light-dappled choral works, drawing a powerful sense of hope from the depths of despair. The extra musicians have rounded out her sound, emphasizing the yearning mood, the reaching towards the light. Check the teenage choir's ecstatic crooning on "Forever," or Amiina's shimmering sound clouds on the glorious second track, "The Harbinger." "Offing" and "One Half" are the perfect showcase for her seamlessly layered vocals, which circulate and settle upon one another like sheets of gauze on the breeze.Far from the secondhand emotions and digital dabblings of so many other artists, Julianna Barwick's music is the real deal: a life-affirming work of importance, interest... and sheer beauty.

Hot Buttered Rum lives for a good time, and a mindful recklessness settles in whenever these five guys step on stage. From Anchorage to Miami, the group's onstage chemistry fuels the lovefest that is a live Butter show. Rooted in the trajectory of west coast bluegrass, Hot Buttered Rum plays what has been described as California's own acoustic music.HBR's years of touring have given the band the chance to work and play with a wide cross-section of musicians, people like Peter Rowan, Phil Lesh, Chris Thile, Brett Dennen, and Robert Earl Keen. Seasoned veteran Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), acoustic guru Mike Marshall, and left-coast rocker Tim Bluhm (Mother Hips, Nicki Bluhm) have all produced studio albums for the band. Each guided HBR towards the next step in its evolution. It's a sound that is tough to describe and easy to love, and it has found its way to the most prestigious pop, folk, and bluegrass stages in the country: Telluride, Newport, Bonnaroo, Strawberry, Hardly Strictly, Kate Wolf, Horning's Hideout, String Summit, Grey Fox, Merlefest, All Good, High Sierra, Wakarusa, and many more. The next step in Butter's evolution involves recording three 5-song EPs, each focusing on a part of music that Hot Buttered Rum loves and is inspired by, and each with a different producer. The first EP was recently recorded with Railroad Earth's Tim Carbone and will be released this fall. The second will be a collection of Ralph Stanley old school bluegrass standards, to be recorded in September with producer Sally Van Meter. The third will be Hot Buttered Rum's latenight throwdown music, to be recorded in November with SCI's Kyle Hollingsworth. Together, the three collections of songs will explore Butter's roots and express Butter's present passions. At the center of Hot Buttered Rum is the enduring camaraderie of old friends. The band was conceived on a backpacking trip of high school and college buddies in the High Sierra. What was dreamed up on mountaintops and around campfires has found its way into the hearts, minds, and bodies of thousands.

Genre: FolkCover: FREEShow: 10PMAges: 21+Grass Fed MuleMeet Grass Fed Mule... the Miles Davis inspired indie folk & bluegrass quartet from St. Louis MO. Drawing energy from their river town roots in bluegrass, old-time, blues, indie folk & jazz, the band’s upbeat shows flood the ears with strong vocal harmonies and instrumental finesse, featuring sounds of claw hammer banjo, harmonica & mandolin. Established in 2015, Grass Fed Mule has hit the ground running, playing festivals, touring the midwest, and releasing their debut album “Hay Is For Horses”. While the core of the band is a quartet, don’t be surprised if they gather some of the most prolific pickers around to entertain your ears—GFM has shared the stage with members of Yonder Mountain String Band, Old Salt Union, ClusterPluck, River Bend and many more."If you like your bluegrass in a jam, Grass Fed Mule should be sweet to your ears." - Columbia Daily Tribune 2016"The St. Louis act started as a side project for two members of jam-band Acoustics Anonymous, then expanded to enfold a member of Elemental Shakedown. Prog and jazz streams flow into the band’s sound, which displays its members’ sure-handed instrumental prowess." - Columbia Daily Tribune 2016web: http://www.grassfedmule.com/vid: https://youtu.be/c1XhiSQLJ6s
