Tracey Morgan Gallery is pleased to present two exhibitions, both opening Friday, August 3rd. SHARON CORE creates extensively researched explorations of the living still life. In both series exhibited, 1606-1907 and Understory, we see the play between the illusion of a painting and the truth of a photograph set amidst the natural cycles of decay and renewal. This will be Core’s first show with the gallery. DAWN ROE, a local artist, will be showing recent work from her series, Conditions for an Unfinished Work of Mourning. Roe produced works using digital photography and video as well as cyanotype. This work was made along a network of trails crossing through the Pyrenees Mountains, and it closely examines the sites surrounding the specific footpath taken by philosopher and cultural theorist Walter Benjamin during his ill-fated attempt to flee Nazi persecution in 1940, as well as related paths of exile traversed by over half a million refugees during The Spanish Civil War and World War II. The exhibition runs through September 22nd, 2018.

Description:
Could you be the voice for an abused/neglected child in the court system? Volunteers needed in Buncombe County North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program 828-259-3443 or www.volunteerforgal.org for more info No experienced needed – all training and support provided Since January 1, 2017, 360 children have entered the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program – this means that 343 kids are alleged to have been abused/neglected and are in the court system. Of no fault of their own, these kids are typically removed from their home and placed and in foster care or a kinship placement. Why were they removed from the home? Maybe their parents abused substances, had untreated mental health, or engaged in domestic violence – maybe it was a combination of these factors. Either way, it’s the kids who pay the ultimate penalty as their lives are uprooted, they often change school districts and are taken away from everything they know. There are so many parties in a DSS abuse/neglect case: the judge, parents/caretakers, parent’s attorneys, DSS attorneys, GAL attorneys, investigative/in-home/foster care social workers…it’s easy to see how the kids get lost in the system. That’s where the role of the Guardian ad Litem comes in: to advocate and ensure the voice of the child is heard in court, that their wishes for permanency and best interest are made known to all parties. With so many kids in the GAL program, our office is overwhelmed with cases, and we have a critical need for volunteers to represent children’s best interests in court. There is no experience necessary and we provide all training and support. Being a GAL is a challenging and demanding role, but also incredibly rewarding as you literally ensure the child’s voice is heard in court throughout the life of the case. Our next training begins mid-January – visit www.volunteerforgal.org to complete a volunteer application, or call the office at 828-259-3443 for more information. Could you be the voice for a child?

It's time to tip the collective human consciousness.  To PEACE.  This is not activism, but rather changing our internal state to one of peace. On August 19th, hundreds of thousands of people are gathering around the world at 7,000 Peace Points.  One of those peace points is in Asheville NC.  The Purpose?  To shift our consciousness from suffering to one of peace. We will be connecting across the globe in a telecast.  There will be 5,000 people gathered at the mother power point in India called Ekam (or The Oneness Field).  We will be participating along with the people in India.  The peace energies will be amplified by Ekam and bring about an immense transformation in the collective human consciousness.  This will manifest as greater kindness, more harmony and more order in our world. You could be an instrument of peace in a world that is being torn apart by conflict and misery.  A peaceful individual creates a peaceful world.  Come meditate with us and contribute to the transformation of world consciousness. Seating will begin at 11:30 AM.  There will be a group meditation beginning at noon, and then a 21 minute world wide meditation.  Celebration!!! to follow. Please register if you are coming as seating is limited.  There is no cost, donations will be gratefully accepted for covering the cost of the space rental.

*TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED* The various yoga communities around the globe are incredibly expansive in their philosophies, practices, methods and cares. At Yoga Alliance, we believe we are better for that diversity, especially when we come together in yoga to channel our collective energy together for the greater good. In order to better understand the perspectives of different yoga communities, this summer, our President & CEO David Lipsius and COO Shannon Roche are embarking on a journey across the U.S. to personally share with you the ways in which the organization is changing to better serve the yoga community and to request your guidance and feedback.  The discussion will include details on the Yoga Alliance Standards Review Project, a comprehensive and inclusive review to ensure that our standards are appropriately evolving over time. As a member organization, Yoga Alliance is most known for its standards and credentials. Because the Yoga Alliance credential is immediately recognizable by most yoga practitioners, it is vitally important that teachers and practitioners understand what our standards mean.  By developing standards and offering credentials to those who meet the conditions of the standards, Yoga Alliance: Provides teachers and schools a measure for quality, safety and performance that they can claim in order to get jobs or promote themselves to the public; Assures quality, safety and performance for customers/students of teachers and schools; Allows those most knowledgeable on the subject matter to shape the field; Discourages government agencies from standardizing all of yoga into narrow definitions; Improves competence and effectiveness of its members. At Yoga Alliance, we know that personal connections and respectful, peaceful and conscious communication are keys to successful relationships so we look forward to meeting you and opening a dialogue that we hope will continue for years to come.
