Asheville Tourists Route Grasshoppers

GREENSBORO, NC – Asheville (6-8) placed six runs in the first inning on Wednesday and held on for a 9-6 win over Greensboro (7-7). The Tourists mounted 13 hits including homeruns from Tyler Massey and Jordan Pacheco in the victory. Robison Fabian (1-0) picked up the win in his third start of the season allowing just two hits on the day.

There was no sluggish morning for the Asheville offense in a 10:45 AM start time at New Bridge Bank Ballpark. Greensboro starting pitcher Brad Hand (0-2) walked Scott Robinson and Erik Wetzel to begin the ballgame. Jimmy Cesario, with one of his four hits on the day, then singled to leftfield driving in Robinson. Jordan Pacheco was hit by a pitch to load the bases and David Christensen delivered a bases -clearing triple to give the Tourists a 4-0 lead. Asheville would plate two more on a solo homerun from Tyler Massey and a sacrifice fly from Scott Robinson. Asheville sent 11 batters to the plate with four hits and six runs in the first inning.

Greensboro countered in the bottom of the first with two runs off Robinson Fabian. After consecutive walks to begin the inning Ben Lasater hit his eighth double of the season to score one. Kyle Skipworth added a sacrifice fly making it a 6-2 game after just one inning.

The Tourists would come right back and chase Brad Hand from the game. Jordan Pacheco smacked his third homer of the season in the second inning and Asheville put up two more in the third. James Sims led off with an infield single and would move around to third on a stolen base and error. Sims would score on a wild pitch. Erik Wetzel followed up with a walk and stolen base and was brought home on the third single of the game by Jimy Cesario. Wetzel walked twice and scored twice and has now walked six times in his three games since joining Asheville on Monday.

Robinson Fabian earned the win tossing 5 1/3 innings. Fabian left in the sixth and was relieved by Tyler Trice with two runners on. Fabian walked four and struck out one but allowed just two hits. Kyle Skipworth singled off Trice and a run scored on a throwing error from Massey in left field. A groundball out from Justin Jacobs pulled Greensboro to within 9-6. Isaiah Fronberger pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Adam Jorgensen earned his fist save of the season with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Game three of the series will be on Thursday at 7:05. Parker Frazier (0-2, 5.56) will take the ball looking for his first win of the season. RHP Kyle Kaminska (1-1, 7.20) will be on the mound for Greensboro. The two teams have split the first six of twelve games in the season series. Thursday’s game can be heard on 100.7 FM WRES
