ASHEVILLE, NC – UNC Asheville women’s basketball coach Betsy Blose has announced the hiring of former Eastern Kentucky assistant Curtis Metten as an assistant coach with the Bulldog program, upon the approval of the school’s Board of Trustees. Blose made the announcement on Thursday.
“We are delighted that Curtis has joined our coaching staff,” stated Blose. “I’ve known him for more than 10 years and he brings loads of college coaching and recruiting experience to our program. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Metten had served as an assistant men’s basketball coach the past two years at his alma mater, Davis & Elkins. Previously to his time at Davis & Elkins, Metten had been an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at Eastern Kentucky University for six years (2000-06). He was a part of two Ohio Valley Conference championship teams and helped the Colonels advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2005.
Metten was a two-sport standout at Davis & Elkins. He was a four-year starter for the basketball team where he saw action at every position. As a senior captain, he averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals a game. He was also the starting shortstop/centerfielder for the school’s baseball team, leading the Senators to the 1995 WVIAC Northern Division Championship.
