ASHEVILLE, NC – The Rome Braves swept the Asheville Tourists by winning the series finale Thursday night 12-6. The Braves scored seven runs in the top of the first inning and the Tourists were unable to recover.
Erik Stavert (1-3, 9.00) lasted only 0.2 innings and was charged for all seven runs the Braves put up in the opening frame. Edward Salcedo clubbed his third Home Run of the season, drilling a three-run shot off Stavert. Also, Chris Garcia connected with a two-run double in the first.
Rome added three more runs in the top of the second inning, taking a 10-0 lead. The Tourists cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Chandler Laurent nailed a three-run homer over the right-centerfield wall. Laurent has now hit four Home Runs in his first ten games with Asheville.
In the fourth, Rome got one more run pushing their lead to eight at 11-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Bryce Massanari led off with a solo Home Run making it 11-4. The blast was Massanari’s tenth of the year.
Rome retaliated by adding a run to extend their lead back to eight. The Tourists were able to score twice in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles by Massanari and Dustin Garneau, but that is all that Asheville could muster.
The Tourists did receive some quality pitching from Rafael Suarez and Taylor Reid. The two relief pitchers combined to throw five innings and allowed only one run between the two of them
