Goombay! Festival Asheville NC 2015
Goombay! Festival is an African-Caribbean festival, incorporating African and Carribbean heritage and traditions. Located in downtown Asheville, Goombay lives up to its West African name, meaning rhythm or drum, with rhythmic sounds and colorful sights. Sponsored by the YMI Cultural Center, Goombay festival 2016 is September 9-11 and will take place at Pack Place Park 121 College St in Asheville.
Asheville’s Goombay is a 3-day festival, with two stages of expressive entertainment! Entertainment encompasses a wide variety of jazz, gospel, soul, reggae and stiltwalkers, drummers and dancers walk through the downtown Asheville street. Local products are sold throughout the festival. Children’s events are featured on Saturday afternoon.
Goombay features authentic and delicious Carribean food, with a multitude of outdoor vendors and a variety of sights, smells, sounds, and colors - a fabulous cultural festival!
Goombay in Asheville, NC starts at 12 pm, with live entertainment until 12pm-10 pm Friday and Saturday. Goombay Sunday begins at 10 am with worship followed by more food, music, entertainment, and food and local vendors. Come downtown Asheville to take part in this annual cultural event.
